HEALTH- Production Diary

 Logistical detail

Me and my cast arranged to meet at goals on a Wednesday during college time between 1PM and 3 PM which is  what i stated during  the Location release form. We got permission on Monday the 9th January and filmed on Wednesday 11th January. We checked to make sure that the weather was going to be okay and that it wasn't going to rain before filming day. Organised travel wasn't required as we just spent 1 minute to walk there from the college building. I signed the form a while before as i printed it off and signed it weeks before i went over as i thought id stay prepared by making the form ahead of time.

Equipment used.

I made sure i came prepared to filming days by making a note of all the equipment i needed to use before hand and noted weather i had it or needed to borrow it. The SD card and football is my own and i would be bringing with myself on the day. The camera and tripod however i would have to book to borrow it from the college. I will use the tripod to keep the shot steady and still, this will help give you a better POV of the characters. This will help create a Full shot so i can put both of the characters in the frame. I am using a football as a prop for the scene as the advert is of 2 people playing football

The shot will be taken at eye level to put you in the perspective of the people in the adverts position of doing the sport. The angle i am using will help put you in their position which will make the audience feel like there there and apart of it which is the affect i am trying to achieve.

Mis-en-Scene

The shot I planned i decided to take a penalty on the pitch. I will have 2 people in the scene. one will be close to the camera as it will be a 2 shot of the full shot of the characters kicking the ball. the main character will be wearing a football shirt to stay with the theme, and the other person will be in a sports tracksuit. The people will be positioned in a moving position, one will be behind the ball running up to it with their leg swung back about to kick it. The person in goal will be in a diving position ready to attempt to save the ball. i have thought of doing it like this as i think if the characters are in moving positions but froze for the poster image, it creates a sense of tension for the audience and therefore grab their attention and make them pay attention to the message the advert is giving.

Controlling production

I made a note of my Cast and crew and contact details so i could contact them before filming so they came to recording days prepared on time, and in the right clothes for shooting. One of the main issues i encountered at first is that we planned to shoot in December but filming had to be pushed back to after the Christmas break due to constant bad weather of snow, wind and rain for the weeks leading up to Christmas. This badly affected production as we couldn't film when planned. to work around this issue, i decided to make a start on the radio advert first as that didn't need to be recorded outside as its was just a voice over. Therefore i was still making progress on the campaign while i waited for the weather to improve.

I decided to create a recording schedule in order to make sure i was managing my recording time effectively in the time i had. even though I'm just taking still pictures for a print advert, i wanted to make sure that time was being used wisely and i was setting deadlines of when certain things in production needed to be done. obviously this is just a guess on how long i think it will take, so if its not exactly accurate, i can be flexible and make up the time if it takes longer or shorter than i thought. By making this schedule i can plan my time accordingly to what i need to do and control my production. Good planning will lead to a better product overall.

Risks During Production

I created a risk assessment form after checking out the facility i would be recording in and outlined any minor or major risks that could affect my recording cast and crew during filming, or what might prevent filming. Since its a football field they weren't any major life threatening risks, but they were a few very minor risks. One being the cold environment during the winter months is that on some days it could be really cold, to void this we would check ahead of time and choose a day where there would be good weather and no rain, snow or cold etc.
One main risk is tripping hazards as you may potentially trip over while running and playing football which may result in minor bruises. This would happen as a result of a slippery surface in the field, or someone miss judging there step while running.
Lone working is a risk that could prevent production as if somebody isn't well and is able to come in then i cannot film. To stop this from being an issue, i have contacted multiple a few people, so if somebody isn't in then someone else can fill in as a backup to fit the role.

Behind The Scenes

Here you can see where my camera man will be standing when we take the final shot. I wanted an eye level over the shoulder shot to increase a sense of realism for the audience looking at this so they feel immersed in the scene which gives a first person perspective to make it look more realistic. this inspired me to make a shot of the same position but putting the camera man  in front of me but to the side so you see the front of the person taking the shot. this is something i did try on the actual shooting day which turned out to make a good shot

here i was trying to get the positioning right in the shot so i could determine what body language i needed to use in the final product. at first we thought we would stand still in the postitions we were in. In the end we decided to actually run and do the penalty for real, but get the camera man to take multiple shots as we were playing so it looked more realistic and like we were actually moving as these behind the scenes shots looked too still

A few days before filming we practiced taking some practice shots. This shows some behind the scenes of filming with my cast and filming crew. we experimented taking shots with and without the tripod to decide which would be better and more realistic in this situation. At first i had the camera man take an OTS shot but it didn't turn out how i wanted to. So in the end i got him to move a bit further back so he could take a full shot of me running up to the bar getting my full body in the shot.

By having a day of practicing what equipment woks better where, what position the characters should be in as well as what shot angles and sizes works best, this helped the planning work way better and made the filming day so much more successful. This is because i knew what props and equipment to bring, i knew what camera angles and shot sizes work best and well as what expressions i wanted the characters to be in. This made for great preparation going into filming a few days later as i knew what worked and what didn't.

Organising footage

I kept my images taken for the project together and organised by creating a folder called "health campaign" so they didn't get mixed up with work from other projects. This file was saved to my computers hard drive but also backed up on a USB stick to ensure i wasn't going to lose it. I also went through all my shots and labeled it so knew what the shot was or who was in it, that way i could find my shots easier. The shots which i thought were some of my best ones taken, i put a + icon next to it so i could round it down to which shots i wanted to use

Footage from filming day
This is some of the shots i taken on filming day. These are some of my favourite shots i taken as i think these look the best for the ideas that i was trying to portray. These are good as i think they show good camera angles and shot size, and also everything in the shot is perfectly in focus. from this i will further round it down to the 2 shots i want to use for my advertising posters for the better health campaign.

Shots i'm using for final product.

These 2 shots i decided to keep and use for the final product. I think these work best as the camera angles, lighting worked and was perfect. After some trial and error the shots worked out how i envisioned it in my plan. since both these shots worked out, Im going to try and  make 2 posters as a result

I chose this shot as oppose to the other shots i took as in this shot, the camera is focusing on one person and nobody else, so therefore the advert is trying to talk to the audience as an individual and not as a group. Trying to get you to exercise, it gets a message across of how its up to you to get into exercise. Therefore its trying to motivate people to start doing a little bit of exercise each day to vastly improve your health. I like this shot because i my body is in a running position so it looks like i am running up to the ball. therefore the audience thinks im running.
