HEALTH- Post Production Diary- PRINT ADVERT

when producing and filming the advert i decided to take plenty of shots from multiple different angles to experiment with my ideas. from my sketches i had a brief idea of how i wanted it to look. but in order for it to work, i needed to take multiple shots that were similar to see which one would best execute my ideas. some of the shots worked how i wanted and some didnt.

Organisation

once i finished the production phase and finished filming, i transferred all my photos from the takes from my SD card to my USB stick to store it on and save space on my SD card. I also created a folder called health campaign where i will store all my photos and takes from production as an easy way to access them and not mix them up from previous projects shots.

I then edited the names of my files so i could sort them and find then easier. I went through them one by one and named them by who was in the shot and what they were doing. Any shots which turned out blurry or didn't look right, i deleted. Then i looked through to find the best ones. Since i had multiple shots which turned out good, i decided to make 2 posters.

RAW FOOTAGE

Obviously, there was too much footage i had taken that not every shot could be used in the final product, since i made a print advert. I had kept some of the raw footage i had taken to show the type of shots i experimented with during production. some of the shots worked and looked good, and some didnt turn out how i wanted and were not used in the final product.

Initial idea/ draft

This was an intital draft of what i envisioned my final product to look like. This was just a test when i was experimenting with the Photoshop tools. i knew that i could retry this with the same image and similar design but make it better. so i then decided to try again and edit it again but make it better. I wanted to improve it by making it a little bit more complex than a square to help it stand out, also i want to use 2 different shades of green so it stand out to gain the audiences attention.

Editing/ Experimenting process

This is one of the shots that i took during filming. This wasn't apart of my initial ideas but i was planning to do a shot of taking a penalty. after a bit of trail and error of trying out different shots i found this angle which i find works really well and presents my idea really well. i think by doing a shot more close up like this you get to put yourself in the characters position as there doing the sport. This shot is also good because you get the scenery in the background while focusing the camera on the character at the same time.

To start off editing, i decided to create a green boarder around the outside using the shape tool and creating a green rectangle around the outside. i chose green as i think it fits the theme of the sport and the grass around it. also i associate green with something positive and doing exercise is what its promoting so it fits. also i left space at the top to put the slogan.

i then added the slogan. i decided to separate the slogan as i think it is more effective when the audience reads, the "little exercise makes" separate from the " a big difference" as the words little and big contrast from each other which makes the advert effective as it only takes a little bit of exercise a day to make a big difference to your lifestyle which is the key message of the ad.

I next added the NHS logo to the bottom left corner so its not in the way but people can still see it. I also decided to add a blue boarder around the image using the shape tool. i still kept the green boarder around the text however to help the slogan stand out. using 2 vibrant colours rather than just one colour makes the advert stand out more.

Finally i decided to add a dark blue line around the image to separate it from the boarder. its just a small detail but it helps the image stand out a lot more than before.

Poster 2

This shot was apart of one of my planned sketches where i get the camera behind the person taking the penalty to get a POV shot of the 2 people in the scene. this is done to persuade people to do exercise, but to not just do it alone, but to do it with a friend. This shot went according to plan and it worked so i may potentially use it in my final product. i think this will grab the audiences attention as it is a suspenseful shot and the penalty is about to be taken but you cant see what happens after that so this will grab peoples attention to this print advert.

When experimenting with designs on Photoshop, i decided to try out the shape tool to create a boarder around the outside of the image using 4 rectangles around the outside of the image and tilting them a bit. I think this makes the image stand out more by having a colour frame round the outside. it really helps draw your eyes to the image and whats going on in the advert. Originally i did 4 of the same colour, but then i thought that was too plain and simple, then i decided to use 2 different colours but decided that looked too much and the colours made it not look right and didn't suit the theme. Finally i found the idea of using 2 different shades of green, one lighter and one darker. That way it blended in together but the boarders looked different for each side rather than being the same shade of green and clashing together. Also i decided to tilt the boarders as i think that made it look more sleek and eye catching to the audience when looking at this advert.

I then decided to make 4 more rectangle shapes using the shape tool and hide them behind the brighter rectangles. this created a dark shade of green as a stripe going in the middle to separate the boarder and the image. i think this makes the design look more smoother and eye catching to the audience so they want to pay attention to the advert. compared to what it looked like previously, i think that this looks a lot better.

when i inserted the NHS logo, i decided to use the same technique that i used for the boarders by creating a darker coloured rectangle around the outside to make it stand out more

i then put in the adverts slogan and decided to wrap it around the characters as i saw it in the previous NHS campaigns and thought it was a good technique as if it is around the characters it is in your face because you are looking at the characters so therefore the text is there and in your face to make you read it. therefore it helps the audience get the message of the ad so therefore they pay attention. i decided to "separate the little exercise" and "big difference" as i want my audience to read them separately as it gives a more powerful message. by putting the "little exercise makes " quote smaller and in the background you read that first and its almost at a pause until you read the "big difference" quote which made bigger so it looks like it is closer to you so it's big and in your face. By making it bigger it sort of exagerates the quote to show the audience that doing exercise will make a big impact on your health

i then decided to move the "big difference" to the front so it stands out more since its closer to the character at the front. in my opinion i think that the text stands out more when its next to the characters. This is the design im going to stick with as i think it works best as the text stands out and positioned really well, the boarders look really good and make the image pop out and brings the whole thing together making it look eye catching. by adding the dark green stripe between the boarder and the image i think it helps separate them so they don't clash. this makes the whole piece stand out and look really good.

Tools used

During the editing process i used many tools in adobe Photoshop. I used the shape tool to create the coloured boarders around my images. I used the crop tool to adjust the image by cutting out parts at the side where it wasn't apart of the shot. By cropping it lets you focus the image on what is meant to be in the shot. I used the move tool to move my shapes and images into the position i wanted to. I accessed all my Photoshop tools at the side bar

Final Products- Print Advert

Feedback

I created a survey on Microsoft forms so people could see my 2 posters i created and give me constructive and honest feedback for both. I did use the same 5 questions for each poster but this is because i wanted to know the same things about each poster.

The following feedback is from this poster

I asked my audience for their age so i could prove that i was asking my target audience to prove this feedback was coming from the right age demographic. This let me know if this advert would suit this audience if it was to be published.

I wanted to know what my Audience like about the design because i didn't want to end up with a sign they didn't like. If there's a certain aspect of my design that they like, then i can therefore use it more in future campaigns as i know this draws in the attention of my young audiences.

I then asked them if it draws their attention and if so, then how. This lets me know what the audience like about the product so i can make products like this in the future, or potentially make it better.

I wanted to know if my audience actually feel motivated to exercise by looking at it and it not just being a advert of people playing football and it looking cool. So i wanted my audience to inform me if they are effected by this. This will let me know if the advert is persuasive or motivational enough.

It was vital that i asked my audience if they liked the ad so i knew they understood the message. Based off this it looks like the communication of the message to the audience was done pretty well as they understand what the advert it about.

Reflection on Improvements.

I do take on board all the pieces of feedback being given. obviously there was a lot of responses. The improvements i agree with most is that i could add a QR code which takes you to the NHS site. I think this would be something i would do next time as it will help with the client as it will help promote the clients website. Also this will help with the audience as it will inform them of what they can do in order to be more active to improve their lifestyle, such as giving them daily bits of advice and ways to track what amount of daily exercise they do.

Next time i may also produce posters showcasing different sports other than football. this is because i feel like i am restricting my audience as not everyone is into football, so therefore not all young people are going to be interested by the advert. As a result not as many people will sign up to the better health campaign and the client will lose out on customers if the advert doesn't attract the entire audience. I feel like if i was to include some  more sports, it will help grasp the attention of multiple people in this particular age demographic, and not just people interested into football.

Poster 2 feedback
since the questions are repeated for both posters, the same reasoning and logic applies for both as to why i chose to ask my audience those questions

The following feedback is from the second poster. i re-used the questions from the poster 1 feedback because i wanted to get the same sort of feedback because i wanted to find out the same things about both posters.

I quickly made this yes/no question to ensure that my audience understood the message of the advert so that i knew that the message and key information was communicated well to the audience.

Reflection on feedback
Based on the improvements suggested by my audience, i think that the only think could be improved is a way to give the audience looking at this access to further information. this can be done by adding a QR code to the corner of the poster in order to take the audience to the NHS site which will give them more information on how to get more involved with the better health campaign.
i do take in the rest of the feedback given, however i don't think there is any further improvements suggested that i think would improve this poster.  I think the slogan is short and sweet and straight to the point. i don't want to change the colour scheme as i chose blue to fit in with the client, the NHS, to match with their logo. I used green to match the colour of the football field, but not the same green. this is a colour scheme which i think works well and matches the theming of the advert and overall suits the brief.
i do not want to make the image brighter as this is the lighting i was going for in production in order to make the characters and text stand out in the background. Also i thought i high lit image would clash with bright colours on the boarder design so i wanted a less brighter image in a bit of shade, with sunlight in the background.
