CANON- Post production- PRINT ADVERT

During production i took plenty of different shots to try to get my initial ideas to work as well as trying to experiment with new ideas. I used different angles and lighting techniques to see which shot would work best and which shots wouldn't work.

Orginisation

Since i took the shots on my phone and not on a camera i thought it would be best to store them on my phone. I organised my images by creating a folder on my phone to keep all the images for the project safe stored in one place. This was so they wouldn't get mixed up with my other photos that weren't shots for the project.

Raw footage

This is some footage that i took on filming day. These 2 shots are the ones i wanted to use for my Print advert because i thought they were very detailed and would help grasp my audiences attention to the advert as it is a very well lit image with good lighting. The vibrant range of colours in the sea and the sky light up the atmosphere very well and make it look very appealing to the young audience. The other shots i took i won't include in this post as they are for the Magazine cover as i took more shots for that since it took more attempts to get the shot right for that due to bad lighting at the time.

I took these shots from different points. The first image was taken from a high up angle by Roker beach. The second image was taken from a lower angle by Seaburn beach so I could capture more of the sand so it wasn't locked by the grass from the hill in front of me, however i still like the aesthtetic it gives off in the atmosphere.

I like how this shot turned out as the lighting i got helped to create a good lighting effect causing the sand to look a golden colour. As well you see the clear blue colour of the sea as the moonlight reflects off it. It sets a calm mood while giving bright colours to the scenery.

Out of the 2, This is the shot i prefer. I loved locations of the beach to try and capture of different angles. i liked the first shot, however i thought it would look better from a slightly lower angle. I did this as i wanted to capture more of the sand in the shot. I personally think that this works better as you get a transition in shades of the sand as this part of the beach, the sea had stared to go out which meant the sand hadn't been stepped on so it was smooth, so the sand at the front was lighter and the sand further out was more damp so it was a darker colour. So this shot gives off a light to dark atmosphere which is what i wanted in my plan as i want it to look colourful. The sky doe the same thing. Due to the dark atmosphere and good lighting i had in the shot from the moon since it was just above the horizon, it reflected off the sea. This caused the sky closer to the sea to be lighter and it gets darker further up. The horizon line is a bit like a line of symmetry in a way as it is lighter in the centre and darker on the top and bottom of the image.

Editing Experimentation

I started the editing Process by adding the image that i wanted. I used the cut out tool to edit out the Canon logo and insert it onto the image. I did this to increase brand awareness for the client so the audience become more aware of them as a company when they see this advert. I wanted the audience to recognise this to be a Canon Camera adverts soon as they see it. I then included the subtitle which is the caption of the advert. I chose the phrase "Capture your memories" because when people are on a day out for a journey or on a holiday they take photos on a camera, and photos are then saves as memories for the future. I thought this not only fits with the product being advertised, but helps fit with the clients campaign of journeys. I thought the text style fit in with the theme of the product as this poster advert will be seen inside a magazine so i think the typewriter style text fits in with the aesthetic i was going for.

I thought next if i just insert an image with logo with text and a logo, it won't stand out as much. I thought in order to make it pop and stand out around the edges, i could add a coloured boarder around the outside in order to make the image pop out more. I thought the colour red fits with the client and it will help make the audience automatically associate it with Canon as soon as they see it.

Next i wanted to add the tagline of the campaign which is journeys. This title needs to be a centrepiece of the advert as it represents the image and is the whole purpose pf why i chose this image. I used a website called fontspace to look through loads of fonts to decide which worked best. I chose this one as it is bolds it stands out really well and pops out to anyone seeing this advert. I chose the colour white as Canon posters usually include the colours white, red and, black. Since white is the brightest, i thought it would stand out best

Since the advert doesn't include much information about canon products, since it is a poster, i thought i now would include info to the Canons official website. This is so if the audience are interested in wanting to look into Canons products, they can look on their website to find out more. This is because its a poster so i don't want to put loads of info on to make the audience bored. I want the imagery to be the centrepiece which catches the audiences attention and then if there interested in what they see, they can go on the website to get further information.

And for one last detail, i thought i would include one last image which shows the product itself so the audience are aware of what is being advertised. The image will show them what quality images these products can make, and the small image is a brief look on what the product looks like. i Put this a red box as it is the Clients main colour of red. I put a black boarder round this to distinctly separate the boarder from the image.

Software and tools used

The software i used is an editing app on my phone called "photoshop mix" it is a very useful photo editing software and a great alternative for someone on a phone that can't edit on a computer all the time. It has most of the tools that you see on photoshop.

Along the side it allows me to organise my layers of my images in a certain order to get the result i want in my final product by letting me organise my images in the order i want.

Along the bottom you see all the tools you have access to. The adjust tool lets you change the lighting and colour correction effects of the image. The looks tool adds different filters to adjust the image style or effect. The cut out tool lets you cut out certain aspects of an image like the background for example. Those were the main few tools i needed to use to edit my product

Feedback

I wanted to ask my audience if they liked the campaign. This is because if they didn't like it then i wanted to know why and know what could be done to improve it. If its good and there's no need to make changes then i know what my audience like about the campaign so i can use that technique in future campaigns

I then wanted to ask them if it draws there attention and why. This is because this project will give me things to learn from with the next time i Produce my advert. If there is a certain thing i did that they liked to draw their attention then i can keep that in mind for next time.

I thought it would be a good idea to ask if they feel more motivated to buy Canon products after seeing this. This lets me know if they learned anything from seeing the advert and if it was persuasive enough to gain their attention into wanting to look into Canon products.

It is a simple yes know question but i wanted to know if they understood the message of the advert as i wanted to know if i did a good job at getting the message across in persuading young people to use Canon products. this would let me know if it was easy to understand and if i conveyed the message across correctly.

Reflection on Feedback

Overall, I think this is good honest constructive feedback which lets me know about what my target audience like about my advert letting me know what went well and what drew them in. A key thing my audience liked is that it included a very detailed image, but the advert itself wasn't overloaded with information which is good as this is what i was wanting to achieve as i didn't want to overwhelm my audience with information. A common response i got was that the detailed quality of the image made them want to check out canon products as with the Canon products they can produce the same imagery in good detail.
